Sergio Arcui produces tiny amounts of very sophisticated wines from the Gaglioppo grape, grown along the dry, sunny, coast in Calabria. in the small town of Cirò, Sergio and his family own less than 4 hectares of vines, the harvest from which was historically sold off in bulk. Beginning in 2009, Sergio began making wine under his own name to almost immediate acclaim. This bottling is ruby red in color, and captures aromas of licorice, prunes and red fruit, dried and fresh all at once. It’s a medium-bodied,wine with a impressively well integrated tannin structure; plenty of grip, but carried well. A good match for char grilled meats with wild herbs.
